Dems tap Ryan to challenge Rosenblum for mayor

The Mamaroneck Village Democrats are backing three-term village Trustee Toni Pergola Ryan in a bid to oust current Mayor Norman Rosenblum, an independent who got the Republican nod last month.

The move will come as a bit of a surprise for many, as rumors have swirled for months that Ryan's longtime Democratic colleague John Hofstetter was looking to move down the dais, though Hofstetter never indicated any intention to run.

Ryan said of her pending campaign that she believes she has the experience and knowledge to be an effective mayor.

"I carefully evaluate what comes to the Board of Trustees, do my research and make my own decisions based on what I believe is best for the village," Ryan said. "People know that I am a life-long resident and they can count on me to be fair, to build bridges and to bring people together.”

Scott Dufault, a Mamaroneck-born public defender, will seek Trustee Louis Santoro's (R) seat on the board.
