Rye resident sues Wainwright House, Planning Commission

Fed up with noise stemming from weddings and catered events at the Wainwright House, one nearby resident has filed an Article 78 calling on the court to force the spiritual center to halt such actions.

The injunction was filed on April 8 in state Supreme Court by former Mayor John Carey (D), on behalf of his client Paul Mundinger.

Mundinger, a long-time Stuyvesant Avenue resident along with his wife Mary, claims the Wainwright House has deprived him of quality of life by a continual practice of hosting outdoor weddings and catered events underneath outdoor tents which was further authorized by the city's Planning Commission in a controversial decision reached late last month. The commission has also been named in the lawsuit. To date, the city is not a defendant in the court case.

The petition asks the court "to nullify the action of the Planning Commission in authorizing the placing of four tents in the rear yard at Wainwright House's premises."

The suit goes on to claim that such actions geared toward parties accommodating hundreds of guests "disturb the peace and quiet of the neighborhood late into the night every weekend, late spring, all summer, and into early fall."

Stay tuned for more on this breaking news!
